'It's no gimmick' - Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney praised by Wrexham star James McClean for 'hard to put into words' ownership success

The Irish winger joined the Welsh side co-owned by the two Hollywood actors in the summer of 2023. It was a massive decision by McClean as he chose to take a step back and join Wrexham in League Two from Wigan in the Championship.

The last two years have been phenomenal for Wrexham as they secured two successive promotions to seal a berth in League One. Both Reynolds and McElhenney have been putting their heart and soul into the club since the takeover a few years back and the recent success is the fruit of their labour.

Speaking as a pundit on RTE, McClean said: "It’s phenomenal. What the two lads have done there, it’s very hard to put into words. Fantastic. It’s no gimmick. We’ve had two promotions in two years. Things are definitely being run right there."

Wrexham will be hoping to achieve their third successive promotion and move to the Championship at the end of the 2024-25 season. McClean will have to play a vital role in the promotion push as only the top two teams are guaranteed a place in the second tier, while the next four will compete in the playoffs.
