  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Capable of operating as a left-back, left-sided centre-back, or even in a more advanced role on the left flank, Cacace offers Phil Parkinson a versatile asset. He has accumulated 16 senior international caps for New Zealand, and his experience will be crucial to the club's chances of survival and potentially success in the Championship.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Reynolds and McElhenney had previously promised an ambitious approach to the summer transfer window, and their intent is already becoming evident. The signings of striker Ryan Hardie and goalkeeper Danny Ward were confirmed earlier in the window, and Cacace’s imminent arrival signals their most eye-catching move yet. His transfer fees will be more than  €100,000, which they shelled out for Sam Smith in the winter transfer window.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Empoli have been open to letting Cacace depart, but insisted on a permanent sale rather than a loan. The Italian side valued the player at around £3.5 million, and although the agreed price is slightly lower upfront, performance-based bonuses could close the gap.

    WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

Cacace’s arrival will also ease the burden on current options like Lewis Brunt and James McClean. With a gruelling Championship calendar ahead and injuries an ever-present risk, having an additional option who can slot into various positions on the left will provide both cover and competition. Wrexham are currently Down Under for pre-season and will start their campaign against Southampton on August 9.
