    WHAT HAPPENED?

Sanchez has made an erratic start to the new season, after being named as Chelsea's No.1 goalkeeper by head coach Enzo Maresca. As such, Blues fans have been asking for the Spaniard to be benched, however, boss Maresca has continued to back the former Brighton keeper. During Chelsea's important Premier League clash against Arsenal on Sunday, Sanchez was ineffective yet again as Gabriel Martinelli beat the Spaniard at his near post to give the Gunners the lead on the night.

  • WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

Chelsea fan @CfcSheikh wrote on X: "LOOK AT ROBERT SANCHEZ. THIS GUY IS THE WORST KEEPER IN OUR HISTORY."

@ImMayankB said: "I don't think Kepa [Arrizabalaga] was worse than this Sanchez guy lmao."

@CFCMods asked: "Has there been a single game where Robert Sanchez has not done anything stupid or poor?"

@k_buckleyy added: "Robert Sanchez is f*cking awful why on earth is he still playing."

Chelsea fan @JohyanCruyff wrote: "Please please please get a new starting goalkeeper in, how many times does Sanchez cost us?"

@EuroExpert_ said: "It's rare I blame a goalkeeper in terms of shot stopping - but Sanchez' position is awful there. No need to be that far out from his near post."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Luckily for Sanchez, Pedro Neto scored the equalizer for Chelsea just ten minutes later as the London rivals shared the points after a compelling clash at Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard did also manage to somewhat make up for his earlier error as he made a big save from a Mikel Merino shot before Leandro Trossard skied the follow-up.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR SANCHEZ?

Maresca has maintained that Sanchez remains his first-choice goalkeeper despite the outrage by Chelsea fans over the Spaniard's unconvincing performances. The Italian will now have two weeks to work on Sanchez's position in the starting lineup before the Blues return to action against Leicester City on November 23.
