  • Numerous deals tied up off the field
  • All intended to aid efforts on it
  • Hollywood stars have increased appeal
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Red Dragons have, with Hollywood co-owners on board, been busy putting agreements in place off the field that help to aid efforts on it. McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have made those ventures possible, with Wrexham’s stock soaring on the back of an Emmy Award-winning documentary series.

    WHAT MCELHENNEY SAID

Another sporting partnership has been mooted in North Wales, with few details being revealed, but McElhenney concedes that the proposal may not be right for all concerned. He has told Adweek: “If they blink, if they say we’re not really sure, then just pass. It’s no disrespect to [the organisation] at all. It’s that we hear all the time from people: ‘We want to do something different.’ But then when push comes to shove, they want to do what’s worked in the past. And that’s just not how we want to operate.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Reynolds and McElhenney will continue to do all they can to put Wrexham in the strongest possible position, but he insists that dreams of the Premier League will not be chased blindly. He added on building sensibly at SToK Racecourse: “Nobody wants to hear this because this is the unsexy version of it. But we have to talk about building sustainable businesses.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

Wrexham’s efforts so far have taken them to second place in the League Two table, with back-to-back promotions being chased down. The ultimate goal is to reach the top-flight, but more investment and business deals will be required along the way in order to make hitting such a lofty target possible.
