  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Relations between Gyokeres and Sporting appear to have hit a low as speculation over a summer exit continues. Gyokeres has been left "furious" by Sporting's decision to go back on a transfer promise that he could leave for £60 million (€70m), with the club now demanding £70m (€83m). According to Record, Gyokeres has responded by telling the club he feels disrespected and has threatened to go on strike. The forward reportedly won't return for pre-season, as things stand, and may have already played his last game for the club.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The news may go down well with Premier League clubs as the race to land the striker continues. Manchester United have made an initial approach for the striker in a move that would see him reunited with former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim. Arsenal and Chelsea are also believed to be admirers of the 26-year-old.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Gyokeres scored 39 goals in just 33 league games for Sporting in the 2024-25 season as they pipped rivals Benfica to Portugal's Primeira Liga title on the final day of the campaign. The Swede finished the season with 54 goals across all competitions, including a stunning hat-trick against Man City in the Champions League.

    WHAT NEXT FOR GYOKERES

A summer exit for Gyokeres looks increasingly likely but it still remains to be seen where he will play his football next season. The striker has given little away about his future but did admit recently that after: "After living in a hot country, it would be difficult [to return to a colder country]."
