'I am far from satisfied' - USMNT striker Ricardo Pepi bags a winner for PSV in the Champions League, but believes there's more to come from him this season

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The 93rd minute header saw him etch his name into PSV history Wednesday, seeing them advance into the knockout round of the champions league. Regardless of what happens on the final matchday, the Dutch club are through to the next round. Now, however, Pepi wants more - but acknowledges it will take both time and 'patience' to breakthrough into the XI.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    The 20-year-old striker has struggled for regular minutes this season, due to the incredible form of Dutch striker Luuk De Jong ahead of him in the pecking order. The 33-year-old has net seven goals and added two assists in JUST the Champions League so far this year, while adding 10 goals and six assists in league play. For any backup striker in the world, you'd struggle to oust someone in the XI when they are in that sort of scoring form.

  • WHAT PEPI SAID

    "I support a striker who is very important for this team and I learn a lot from him," Pepi said. 'It was a very important match today. All the substitutes made a difference, we really were a team. At halftime we felt that it was not good enough, but in the second half we put a lot more energy into the match. It's very special [the goal].''

    "Every day I learn from him [Luuk De Jong], that is important to me and that is what I do. It's a situation I have to be grateful for. Of course I want to play more minutes, but at the same time I have to remain patient. I am far from satisfied. I want to keep growing, keep working and keep learning," Pepi concluded.

    WHAT NEXT FOR PEPI AND PSV?

    The USMNT star an the Dutch side return to action at the weekend, with an ever-important match against Feyenoord. The two sides are separated by seven points in the Eredivisie table, but make up the top-two spots in the league standings. With a win, PSV could go 10-points clear of their rivals.
