It was another action-filled weekend for Africans as some registered new records while others found themselves on the losing sides

A number of players from the continent were in action for their respective teams in Europe but how did they perform?

  • Riyad Mahrez

    Review of Africans in Europe

Riyad Mahrez, Fashion Sakala and Joseph Ayodele-Aribo made direct contributions to their sides' good results whereas Emmanuel Dennis and Samuel Chukwueze scored but saw their teams defeated.

  • Salah Mane Jota

    Too Good - Mohamed Salah

The Egyptian provided an assist for Diogo Jota - for his second goal - in the 32nd minute as Liverpool won 4-0 against Southampton.

Salah has now been directly involved in 25 goals in all competitions this season - 17 goals and eight assists - more than double that of any other Premier League player.

  • Edouard Mendy Chelsea 2021-22

    Too Bad - Edouard Mendy

The Senegal shot-stopper failed to keep a clean sheet when Chelsea drew 1-1 against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

He conceded a goal by Jadon Sancho in the 50th minute as Chelsea remain winless in their last eight Premier League games against the Red Devils.

  • Alex Iwobi

    Too Bad - Alex Iwobi

The Nigerian failed to make his mark in the game as Everton lost 1-0 to Frank Onyeka's Brentford.

The result means Iwobi's side is now winless in seven Premier League games and that is their longest such run since April 2016 under Roberto Martinez (also seven).

  • Watford defender William Troost-Ekong of Nigeria.

    Too Bad - William Troost-Ekong

The Nigerian defender featured as Watford suffered 4-2 loss to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Troost-Ekong's team has conceded in each of their last 23 league matches, shipping 45 goals in the process, the longest current run of any Premier League side without a clean sheet.

  • Watford and Nigeria striker Emmanuel Dennis.

    Too Good - Emmanuel Dennis

Although Watford lost, Emmanuel Dennis scored his fifth Premier League goal in 12 appearances and he has also registered five assists.

He is also the only sixth player to reach both tallies in 12 or fewer appearances, the others are Eric Cantona (11), Jurgen Klinsmann (12), Arjen Robben (11), Andrey Arshavin (10) and Bruno Fernandes (9).

  • Riyad Mahrez Manchester City 2021-22

    Too Good - Riyad Mahrez

Although he had his goal ruled out for offside, the Algeria forward provided an assist for Ilkay Gundogan to open the score as Manchester City won 2-1 against West Ham United.

Mahrez's Manchester City have now won 11 of their last 13 matches against the Hammers in all competitions, losing none. Over this period they have scored 35 goals against David Moyes' side while conceding only six in return.

  • Wilfried Zaha

    Too Bad - Wilfried Zaha

The Ivorian was not only yellow-carded in the 29th minute but also failed to rescue Crystal Palace from a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa at Selhurst Park.

The loss means Zaha's Eagles have suffered their first defeat in their last eight Premier League games (W2 D5), since a 0-3 away defeat to Liverpool in September.

  • Rangers and Zambia player Fashion Sakala.

Too Good - Fashion Sakala and Joseph Ayodele-Aribo

Nigeria's Ayodele-Aribo and Zambia's Sakala were on target for Rangers as they downed Livingston 3-1 in a Scottish Premiership fixture.

Ayodele-Aribo scored in the 16th minute to give the away side a 2-0 lead before Sakala added the third one in the 78th minute.

  • Samuel Chukwueze of Nigeria and Villarreal.

    Too Bad - Samuel Chukwueze

The Super Eagles star equalised for Villarreal against Barcelona in the 76th minute after they had gone behind to Frenkie de Jong's goal in the 48th minute.

However, Barcelona stung them late in the second half as Memphis Depay scored the second in the 88th minute and Philippe Coutinho struck the third in added time to beat Chukwueze's side on their own turf.
