Tom Brady & Birmingham City narrow their search! Two experienced names emerge as frontrunners to replace sacked Wayne Rooney

The Tom Brady-owned club parted ways with Rooney after just 13 weeks due to a series of poor results that saw the club collecting just 10 points in the Championship from the available 45. When Rooney took charge, Birmingham City were occupying a play-offs spot but by the time he left, they had fallen down to the 20th position, six points above the relegation zone.

Now, according to the Mirror, the Blues have prepared a shortlist of two managers who could replace the former Manchester United star at the helm. They have narrowed down the manager search to former Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray, who left The Black Cats in December, and ex-Stoke City manager Gary Rowett.

After leaving the club on Tuesday, the 38-year-old former England star admitted that the performances of the team had gone down drastically under his tutelage but he also claimed that 13 weeks was not enough to make significant changes.

After starting the new year with a 3-0 defeat against Leeds United in the Championship, Birmingham City will now shift focus to the FA Cup where they take on Hull City in a third-round clash on Saturday.
