'You'll know before me' - Thomas Muller takes dig at media over Bayern Munich exit as legendary forward avoids 'distractions' about potential MLS move after Club World Cup

The German superstar is preparing for his last run with the Bundesliga champions at the Club World Cup, but where he will end up after the tournament is yet to be decided. The Bayern legend took a sly dig at the media when asked if he has found a new club, saying the reporters will likely know before he does.

The 35-year-old’s contract with the Bavarian giants is set to expire as he confirmed in April that he would leave after 25 years with the club. A move to the United States - possibly MLS side LAFC - is reportedly on the cards. As Bayern compete in the Club World Cup, Muller will use the long stay in the USA stay to reflect on life beyond Munich.

While addressing the media on ignoring distractions and staying locked in for Bayern’s Club World Cup campaign, he said: "I'm completely relaxed about it. Even if something happens during the tournament regarding my professional future, I won't let it distract me. I'm constantly thinking about my future, especially the short-term. And that will happen here at the Club World Cup; that's my main focus."

With Bayern potentially staying in the U.S. until mid-July, the striker sees the tournament as more than just football: "Of course it's also an opportunity for me. Especially if we get far, then we'll be in various regions in the USA."

Muller also took a dig at media about learning his next move before he does, joking: "Maybe you'll know before me, like last time."

The Club World Cup may serve as both a farewell tour and a subtle scouting trip for life in the U.S for Muller. For now, the Bavarian icon is fully committed to helping Vincent Kompany and his team end their season on a high. With 33 trophies already under his belt, including two Club World Cup titles (2013, 2020), the legendary forward could yet add one more to his legacy before deciding where his football story continues.
