With the Socceroos set to play to two friendlies later this month before the Asian Cup in January, the A-League season has started just in time for a number of players pushing their case.
Goals are top of Graham Arnold's agenda for the green and gold with a number of Aussies showing they know how to find the back of the net already this season.&nbsp;

While at the back, two players have put forward compelling cases that could see two regulars dislodged.&nbsp;<script type="application/json" data-placement="fcplayer-semantic">{"type":"fcplayer-semantic","data":{"embedCode":"//cdn.fcp.codes/embed-code-template/embed-code-template.js#SEMANTIC_5704afb8-c10b-4ba5-9cb4-d7fb6098ef90"}}</script>

Five goals in just three games make Goodwin's case for a Socceroos recall a very hard one to turn down.
After two superb finishes against Sydney FC in the FFA Cup final, he turned it on again in front of Graham Arnold against the Mariners scoring twice and picking up an assist.

High on confidence and with a killer left foot, Goodwin is exactly the type of player the Socceroos front third is in desperate need of.

With Daniel Arzani set for a spell on the sidelines and Robbie Kruse scoring just one goal across the&nbsp;past three for Australia, it's hard to argue against Goodwin's inclusion in the squad.&nbsp;

Though he barely got to play with Lazio in Italy, Ikonomidis' time abroad has clearly paid off with the 23-year-old displaying a killer instinct in front of goal.
After scoring an injury-time winner against Melbourne Victory, the attacker turned provider against Brisbane Roar with a delightful assist for Andy Keogh.&nbsp;

Though beginning his time with Perth on the right note, coach Tony Popovic has stressed Ikonomidis still needs time to fully shine.&nbsp;

“You’ve got to earn a Socceroos shirt and I think he has the potential to be there, he has quality, but there’s work to do and he has to keep improving if he wants to get in there,” Popovic said.

While November's friendlies may come too soon for him, should Ikonomidis continue to impress an Asian Cup spot isn't out of the question.

With Mathew Leckie short on fitness and game time, the Socceroos may need a speedy right-footer to step up and Ikonomidis is showing he may be the man.&nbsp;

Two goals from three A-League games isn't a bad return for the new Brisbane Roar striker, who is looking to become even sharper in front of goal under the guidance of John Aloisi.
Taggart began his Roar career in mixed fashion missing a number of good chances against the Mariners before finally finding the back of the net.&nbsp;

While his misses didn't bode well, the 25-year-old was getting into all the right positions and never let his head drop as he chased an elusive goal.

Though drawing blank against Wellington Phoenix, Taggart got his name back on the score sheet against Perth as he converted a penalty into the bottom right.

With Tomi Juric only just back to fitness in Switzerland, Arnold may want to give another striker the chance to impress in November and it's an offer Taggart would literally take with both feet.&nbsp;

A truly versatile striker equally capable of scoring from distance or with a close-range header, Taggart might be exactly the point Arnold's Socceroos attack is after.&nbsp;

An ACL injury arguably robbed him of his chance to crack into the Socceroos squad before the World Cup and now Rhyan Grant looks dead set on claiming a shirt for the Asian Cup.
Though still early days in his comeback, the right back looks to be firing on all cylinders bombing forward to great effect and defending&nbsp;with all the aggression you'd expect from someone with a mullet.

Grant picked up an assist against Melbourne City on Friday and played a big hand in the second goal as he played a key&nbsp;role&nbsp;in Sydney FC's impressive FFA Cup turnaround.

With Grant impressing under the watchful eye of his former club coach, current Socceroos right back Josh Risdon has been shaky in the Wanderers mixed start to the season.

November's friendlies again may come too soon for Grant, but good form continuing, an Asian Cup spot is certainly up for grabs.&nbsp;

Has taken to the A-League like a fish to water. After spending his career to date in Europe, Davidson was always going to shine on his return home and has done just that.
Deployed as a wing-back for Perth Glory, the 27-year-old has looked classy going forward and composed at the back with his sheer pace proving handy in either direction.

With 22 Socceroos cap to his name, Davidson knows what it takes to represent the green and gold.

He does however have his path back to the national team blocked by Aziz Behich, who has been a strong performer for the Socceroos at left-back over the past few years.

The new PSV signing hasn't established himself in Netherlands just yet though and a lack of game time could well open the door ever so slightly for Davidson.&nbsp;
