'Single greatest thing we did' - Wrexham chief reveals the best decision Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney made after takeover

Humphrey Ker, the executive director of Wrexham, spoke highly of Hollywood co-owners Reynolds and McElhenney for their decision to appoint Parkinson as the head coach of the club, labelling the move as the "single greatest thing we did."

Just months into Reynolds and McElhenney's takeover of Wrexham in 2021, the duo persuaded Parkinson to join the club and get on board with their ambitions to reach the Premier League. In his four seasons in charge, the 57-year-old has managed the incredible feat of inspiring the Red Dragons to three successive promotions, which will see them compete in the Championship next season. Such record-breaking feats have seen him become the subject of 'The Boss' mural in Wrexham, with reports of a statue in his honour also rife.

Speaking on The Sports Agents podcast (h/t Leader Live), Ker said: “He’s been extraordinary and I think, again, people point to our success and there’s, obviously, lots of debate about ‘oh, have you thrown a lot of money? Have you done this, that and the other?’.

“I think the single greatest thing we did was hire Phil and say you’re in charge. It’s quite an old-fashioned way of doing things. We don’t have a director of football. We don’t have a head of data, a head of scouting, a head of this, that and the other. You’re the manager. You’re in charge.”

Parkinson and Co. will be eyeing a historic fourth successive promotion and therefore a jump to the Premier League. The club is well aware that they'll have to punch well above their weight to cross the Championship hurdle, and they've already started taking steps to strengthen the team. If reports are to be believed, the Robins are in talks with ex-Leicester City keeper Danny Ward as well as recently-turned free agent and legend of the Foxes, Jamie Vardy. More signings are likely to be completed when the window reopens on June 16.
