Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has named his starting eleven to face Stellenbosch in a Premier Soccer League game on Wednesday at Danie Craven Stadium.

After a slim 1-0 victory over Swallows in their opener, the Soweto giants are away and will attempt to collect another three points.

Here is how they line up:

Having kept a clean sheet against Swallows in their last outing, the Ghanaian should be motivated going into matchday two, in which he starts again.

  • Tebogo Tlolane of Pirates.Backpagepix.

    Tebogo Tlolane

Tlolane has been deployed at left-back, replacing Deon Hotto, who featured there last time.

Consequently, Hotto has been dropped to the bench as Tlolane has been drafted into the squad to play in their first away game of the season.

As was the case with Hotto, Tlolane is expected to play both defensive and attacking roles.

  • Innocent Maela, Orlando Pirates, December 2021Backpagepix

    Innocent Maela

He got the chance to lead Pirates in their season-opening assignment and delivered a victory while serving as the captain of the new season.

However, a change in the formation saw him serve as a centre-back alongside Nkosinathi Sibisi and Tapelo Xoki.

Will he lead the Sea Robbers to a second victory against the home side?

    Nkosinathi Sibisi

Sibisi received the man-of-the-match award after a good show against Swallows.

Again, he will partner Ndah and Maela in a three-man defense as the coach maintains the formation deployed in their previous game.

A clean sheet and a win will be an inspiration to Sibisi as he tries to settle as fast as possible at the Soweto club.

  • Olisa Ndah of Orlando Pirates.Backpagepix.

He was introduced in the 78th minute for Tapelo Xoki after he had been dropped to the bench in another surprising change by Riveiro.

However, the Nigerian starts as the Bucs look for yet another victory in the new campaign.

Meanwhile, Xoki drops to the bench.

    Bandile Shandu

Having been left out of the starting XI last time out, the right back returns and takes up duties in his usual position.

Thabiso Monyane, who started ahead of him in the Swallows game, has been dropped.
Shandu would hope to have a far better day in order to keep his close rival, Monyane, out of the starting eleven going forward.

  • Ben Motshwari, Orlando Pirates, March 2022Backpagepix

    Ben Motshwari

Motshwari starts ahead of Thabang Monare who faced Swallows.

Motshwari is expected to marshal his fellow midfielders as he serves as a deep-lying midfielder.

Another start means he has been handed a chance to prove his solidity further, as Pirates and their fans remain hopeful of a successful season.

  • Daylon Classon, Maritzburg United, Thembinkosi Lorch & Goodman Mosele, Orlando Pirates, May 2022Backpagepix

    Goodman Mosele

Just like last season, on many occasions, Mosele and Motshwari were partnered as defensive midfielders.

They have again been lined up alongside one another, and this gives them a chance to solidify their partnership even more.

  • Thembinkosi Lorch Orlando Pirates May 2022backpagepix

    Thembinkosi Lorch

Lorch, as usual, starts as a left-forward and is expected to pose a threat to the Swallows’ right-back persistently as they search for opportunities and goals.

He was yellow-carded in their last game and should be careful not to be booked in this particular game.

  • Kabelo Dlamini of Orlando Pirates challenges Ghazi Ayadi of Al Ittihad, April 2022Backpagepix

    Kabelo Dlamini

Given chances, Dlamini always remains a threat to the opposition, and Swallows must keep close watch over him.

He will operate on the right-hand side of a three-pronged attacking formation.

  • Bienvenu Eva Nga, Orlando Pirates, & Waseem Isaacs, Swallows, August 2022Backpagepix

    Bienvenu Eva Nga

Eva Nga scored his PSL debut goal for the Sea Robbers against Swallows.

The 10th-minute goal should motivate him as he hopes to be a dependable goalscorer for Pirates.

However, he should be keen to avoid another booking since he received a yellow card in the 78th minute.
