Hence, the Red Devils refrained from making any formal move for the English forward, who eventually sealed a transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli for a substantial £40 million ($53m) transfer fee.

It has been reported that Toney is earning an eye-watering £403,000 per week, inclusive of bonuses, in Saudi Arabia. He has hit the ground running in his new surroundings and has scored three goals in four appearances across competitions.

Toney will be eager to continue his goal-scoring exploits when Al-Ahli face Al-Qadsiyah in their next league fixture on Friday. Meanwhile, Zirkzee will be hoping to break his five-match goalless streak when the Red Devils host Twente in the Europa League on Wednesday at Old Trafford.
