  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Real Salt Lake's Andres Gomez appears to be close to a move to France's top flight.

According to multiple reports, RSL and Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes have agreed to an $11 million move with potential add-ons. Should the move proceed through the contract and medical phase, it will be a well-earned transfer for the 21-year-old Colombian midfielder.

Gomez is in the midst of a breakout 2024 campaign for RSL, dropping 13 goals and nine assists in just 23 matches played. Gomez joined RSL in a transfer from Colombian top side Millonarios FC before the 2023 season in a five-year deal. He showed glimpses of his potential in 2023, providing six assists and one goal in 30 matches played.

El Show RSL first reported Gomez's signature.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Real Salt Lake loses one of their promising young midfielders as Gomez combined well with 20-year-old U.S. international Diego Luna. Yet, it might have been a move the club was prepared for as it just signed FC Copenhagen star Diogo Goncalves on a Designated Player contract. RSL currently sit third in MLS's Western Conference with 44 points in 25 matches played.

Stade Rennes will be looking to move up the table after a underwhelming 2023-24 season. After finishing in the top four in the previous campaign, Les Rouges et Noirs wrapped up the following season midtable in 10th.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR REAL SALT LAKE?

RSL were eliminated from Leagues Cup so they'll have a break from matches until Aug. 24, when they host San Jose at America First Field.
