Raphael Varane wanted by Cesc Fabregas at newly-promoted Serie A side Como after Man Utd exit

According to Fabrizio Romano, the French World Cup winner is wanted by newly-promoted Serie A side Como - where Fabregas is assistant manager to Osian Roberts. However, the 31-year-old is also said to be on the radar of several clubs in Europe and further afield.

The ex-Real Madrid defender joined United for a reported £41 million ($52m) in 2021 from Los Blancos but he wasn't the same force he was in La Liga. That was evident in the fact he is now a free agent and is looking for a new club. It is likely he has several years left in his career, however, and more success could come his way.

During his time with United, Varane won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup in 2023 and 2024 respectively. At Madrid, he won three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and four Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs during a glittering career.

Teams in Europe's top leagues are set to return to pre-season training in the coming weeks. It remains to be seen who Varane - who has earned 93 caps for France over the years - will play for next as the 2024-25 season nears.
