  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Austria head coach Rangnick grabbed eyeballs during the 2-1 World Cup qualifying victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The 67-year-old German e-biked across the pitch in Zenica several times – for example, before the match to give an interview to ORF and at half-time to go to the dressing room.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rangnick is still dealing with the aftermath of a serious ankle issue that required multiple surgeries over the summer. The former Manchester United head coach initially underwent a successful operation, but complications arose when an infection developed post-surgery. He was subsequently readmitted to hospital, where he underwent a second procedure to address the issue. He is still feeling the effects of the medical ordeal and has been consciously limiting his movement, taking as few steps as possible to aid his recovery.

  • WHAT RALF RANGNICK SAID

"It could be better. But I'm taking small steps and things are looking up," said Rangnick. "Unfortunately, my ankle is still not in such good shape."

Rangnick had previously used a gold cart to get around, but the lack of space in the stadium forced them to seek an alternative method. He added: "I've known for a few days that the distances here are long. It can't be much further."
