#1 PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM OF THE WEEKEND - MATCHWEEK 1

Manchester City and Tottenham players dominate the first Opta-powered Premier League Team of the Weekend of the 2019-20 campaign.

Raheem Sterling's hat-trick against West Ham gets him the nod and he is supported in attack by Harry Kane, whose two late goals saw off Aston Villa.

They are joined by some more unheralded names at the back. Read on to discover who made the cut.

#2 GOALKEEPER - DAVID DE GEA (MANCHESTER UNITED)

The Spain international finished last season in poor form but he started the new campaign with a dominant performance to thwart Chelsea.

De Gea made seven saves to keep out Frank Lampard's side – three more than any other goalkeeper over the opening weekend.

    #3 RIGHT-BACK - KYLE WALKER (MANCHESTER CITY)

The England international was at his industrious best down the right flank as City ran riot against West Ham.

He won possession 10 times in an all-action display and laid on Gabriel Jesus' opener after a powerful surge behind the Hammers' defence.

  • tyronemings - Cropped

    #4 CENTRE-BACK - TYRONE MINGS (ASTON VILLA)

Mings can consider himself unlucky to be on the losing side against Tottenham.

The former Bournemouth man – who completed a permanent move to Villa during the off-season – made 17 clearances against Spurs, the most by a player in a single Premier League match since Shane Duffy made 19 against Newcastle in October 2018.

  • chrismepham - Cropped

    #5 CENTRE-BACK - CHRIS MEPHAM (BOURNEMOUTH)

The former Brentford defender became Bournemouth's third youngest goalscorer in the Premier League after David Brooks and Nathan Ake with his 62nd-minute strike.

It was not enough to seal all three points for his side, however, with Billy Sharp's late strike securing a draw for Sheffield United.

  • oleksandrzinchenko - Cropped

    #6 LEFT-BACK - OLEKSANDR ZINCHENKO (MANCHESTER CITY)

The Ukraine international was superb for City in their thumping win over West Ham.

Only David Silva (31) completed more passes in the opposition's half than Zinchenko's 28, while the 22-year-old also made four clearances to ensure his side's rearguard was not breached.

  • harrywinks - Cropped

#7 CENTRAL MIDFIELD - HARRY WINKS (TOTTENHAM)

Winks was a metronomic presence at the heart of Tottenham's midfield in their win over Aston Villa.

The England international completed 52 of his 55 passes in Villa's half – the best passing accuracy of any player in the match.

  • ndombele - Cropped

#8 CENTRAL MIDFIELD - TANGUY NDOMBELE (TOTTENHAM)

Ndombele marked his Tottenham debut with a superb strike to pull his side level and set the stage for Kane's late double.

The France international became the first player to score on his Premier League debut for the club since Eric Dier against West Ham in August 2014.

  • debruyne - Cropped

#9 CENTRAL MIDFIELD - KEVIN DE BRUYNE (MANCHESTER CITY)

The Belgium international was at his influential best in City's romp at West Ham.

His pass for Raheem Sterling's first goal means only Christian Eriksen (49) has made more assists in the Premier League than De Bruyne's 46 since he made his debut in September 2015.

#10 FORWARD - RAHEEM STERLING (MANCHESTER CITY)

Sterling was outstanding in his side's 5-0 win over West Ham and became the eighth player to score a hat-trick on the opening weekend of a Premier League campaign.

The England international scored 17 league goals last season and after this start you would not back against him exceeding that tally this time around.

  • harrykane - Cropped

#11 FORWARD - HARRY KANE (TOTTENHAM)

Tottenham looked to be heading towards a frustrating 1-1 draw with Aston Villa before Kane stepped up and did what he does best.

His two goals in the closing stages took his tally to six goals in six Premier League appearances against Villa.

  • ashleybarnes - Cropped

#12 FORWARD - ASHLEY BARNES (BURNLEY)

Barnes enjoyed the second-highest goalscoring season of his career last time out and might fancy his chances of doing even better in the 2019-20 campaign.

His double against Southampton took his Clarets tally in the Premier League to 34 – 14 more than any other player for the club.
