    WHAT HAPPENED?

Despite a hot start from Pulisic, AC Milan's opening goal came from the opposite side of the field as Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao combined for a fantastic finish. The Frenchman was the goalscorer as he made one of his trademark runs from the left-back position. Leao found Hernandez, who provided a composed finish in the 25th minute to seize the advantage.

Milan had a few big chances, particularly one from Leao in the 87th minute. However, despite their inability to convert any of those chances, Milan's defense held strong to seal a crucial 1-0 win.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The win was vital, for Milan, particularly with crosstown rivals Inter earning a 4-2 win earlier in the weekend to keep their lead atop Serie A. Having played one more game than Inter, AC Milan sit eight points back, making every point valuable as they hope and pray for Inter to slip up and open up the Scudetto race.

    USMNT IMPACT

Pulisic had his moments early, particularly in the first few minutes when he seemed destined to give Napoli's Pasquale Mazzocchi fits all game. The American, though, didn't quite take off, with Milan mainly leaning towards Leao on the left-hand side when building their attacks.

Pulisic was limited to just 34 touches, four of which came in the opposition box, while his one shot early was blocked away. A penalty shout in the 77th minute was dismissed, although Pulisic didn't do much complaining after.

His USMNT teammate, Yunus Musah, remains one of Milan's first players off the bench as he replaced Ismael Bennacer in midfield in the 65th minute.

    GOAL'S RATINGS

    Christian Pulisic (6/10):

Was fantastic off the ball, but didn't get enough chances on it. Pulisic has been sticking wider and has, generally, been less involved in dangerous situations in the attacking end.

    Yunus Musah (6/10):

Had one bad giveaway but, other than that, a solid shift from Musah, who has been reliable as a midfield sub so far this season.

    WHAT COMES NEXT?

Milan will now turn their focus toward the start of their Europa League campaign, having fallen out of the Champions League with a third-place finish in the group stage. Their first Europa League match will come Thursday, as they play host to French side Rennes to kickstart the knockout rounds.
