PSG injury and suspension list: When will Nuno Mendes and Presnel Kimpembe return to bolster Luis Enrique's squad?

A new season hasn't brought immediate success for PSG. The Parisians have endured a mixed start to the 2023-24 season, and find themselves slightly off the pace in Ligue 1. Kylian Mbappe has been shaky at times, while Luis Enrique's tinkering has seen the reigning champs struggle to find form. Still, they remain in striking distance, and seem guaranteed to advance to the Champions League knockouts. It is also, you'd feel, only a matter of time before they run away with Ligue 1.

There are a couple of injuries to contend with, too. Vice-captain Presnel Kimpembe remains out after rupturing his Achilles tendon last spring — although he is making progress. Reigning Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year Nuno Mendes has also undergone hamstring surgery that will keep him sidelined until the new year. But there is good news elsewhere, with Marco Asensio and Nordi Mukiele both returning to the fray.

GOAL takes a look at who's injured, and how long they might be out for.

How long will Presnel Kimpembe be out for?

Kimpembe tore his Achilles while tracking back against Marseille at the end of February. It was a cruel blow for the centre-back, who'd just returned from a long-term muscle injury at the time. But his recovery appears to be going well. Kimpembe has been pictured training individually, and the club hasn't issues any negative updates.

Expected return: The centre-back faces a long recovery period from his injury, but should be available sometime in the new year.

    What is Nuno Mendes' injury?

The Portuguese left-back has struggled with various knocks since the turn of the new year. A muscle injury kept him out for the World Cup and some of January, and he's never quite managed to sustain a spell of fitness since then. His tough 2023 campaign was finally ended in early May, when Mendes left PSG's clash with Lorient due to a hamstring problem. And things only got worse from there. He ruptured his hamstring in July, and needed an operation to recover fully.

Expected return: Mendes is expected to be out for even longer than first expected after undergoing surgery on his torn hamstring at the end of September. A February 2024 return date seems realistic.
