Premier League prepare to issue PSR punishments and points deductions this week - with Chelsea and Man Utd having 'little room for manoeuvre'

According to The Guardian, the Premier League has given its financial and legal departments 14 days to study the books of teams in danger of a PSR breach for the 2021-24 accounting period. If any charges are issued, teams should hear about it on Monday or Tuesday. Incidentally, the report adds Manchester United have 'little room for manoeuvre' and Chelsea's 'huge losses' in recent years put them at risk, too.

The Guardian claims that as United are reportedly listening to offers for academy stars Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, coupled with their pre-tax loss quadrupling to £131 million ($160m) last season, they need to tread carefully in terms of PSR.

Moreover, Chelsea's combined pre-tax losses over the past two years are now at £211m ($257.5m), but selling academy products Conor Gallagher, Lewis Hall, and Ian Maatsen for more than £100m ($122m) has eased the pressure on the Blues. They are not in the clear, however.

The other teams mentioned that need to be careful when it comes to a possible PSR breach are Leicester City, who escaped a points deduction in 2024 after winning a legal battle with the Premier League, and Nottingham Forest and Everton - both of whom were docked points last season for PSR breaches. Newcastle United are reportedly another side who have to be careful when it comes to PSR.

The report adds the aforementioned clubs who have 'cut things fine' when it comes to PSR could be in for a nervous 48 hours.
