Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has named his Orlando Pirates starting XI to face Royal AM in a Premier Soccer League match at Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday.

After a shocking home loss against Chippa United, the Sea Robbers would be keen to overcome the setback and post a victory.

This is expected to be a tough contest as both sides are looking for points after previous defeats. Royal AM were beaten 3-1 by Stellenbosch and should be seeking redemption on home ground.

Here is how they line up:

    Richard Ofori

The Ghanaian conceded in two of his last games and would hope to keep a clean sheet against Royal AM, who have scored five goals in their last three games.

  • Deon Hotto Orlando Piratesbackpagepix

Under Riveiro, the Namibian has been given new responsibilities as he has featured as a left-back.

The case has not changed against Royal AM and Hotto will be expected to offer a numerical advantage – in what is seen as a flexible formation by the coach -  when Pirates are attacking.

  • Innocent Maela, Orlando Pirates & Israel Mwenda, Simba, April 2022Backpagepix

    Innocent Maela

As the captain, he has to lead by example as the Sea Robbers are looking for a win after the latest PSL setback.

Apart from being one of the central defenders, Maela should take control of the left-back when Hotto advances during attacking situations.

  • Nkosinathi Sibisi Orlando Pirates 2020.Backpagepix.

    Nkosinathi Sibisi

Sibisi has been deployed at the heart of a three-man defensive formation.

With a yellow card received during the Chippa game, Sibisi should be extra cautious in order to avoid more bookings that would probably limit his minutes for the season.

  • Olisa Ndah of Orlando Pirates.Backpagepix.

The Nigerian must remain rock solid at the back to help the Soweto giants avoid conceding more goals and probably keep their second clean sheet of the season.

  • Thabiso Monyane of Orlando Pirates.Backpagepix.

    Thabiso Monyane

Monyane was substituted late in the second half during the Chippa loss.

Although he appeared quite shaky, Riveiro has placed more trust in Monyane and names him once more as a starter ahead of Bandile Shandu.

  • Miguel Timm Orlando Pirates.Backpagepix.

    Miguel Timm

Timm takes the place of Thabang Monare, who is on the bench, at the centre of the midfield.

The 30-year-old’s experience, as he covers the back four and provides the midfield link, should come in handy while Bucs are dealing with an ambitious opponent.

  • Daylon Classon, Maritzburg United, Thembinkosi Lorch & Goodman Mosele, Orlando Pirates, May 2022Backpagepix

    Goodman Mosele

A relatively regular starter for Pirates and, as usual, will work closely with Timm at the heart of the midfield.

As he makes his fourth start under Riveiro, walking home with a win should be his primary target of the day.

  • Kabelo Dlamini of Orlando Pirates challenges Ghazi Ayadi of Al Ittihad, April 2022Backpagepix

    Kabelo Dlamini

After he was not involved at all against Chippa, Dlamini returns to the starting team ahead of Vincent Pule, who drops to the bench.

Dlamini will operate on the right-hand side of a three-man attacking set-up.

  • Daylon Classon, Maritzburg United, Thembinkosi Lorch & Goodman Mosele, Orlando Pirates, May 2022Backpagepix

    Thembinkosi Lorch

Although he has started in the last three games, Lorch has not registered a goal thus far.

Will he be lucky this time around to open his season’s account with a goal against Royal AM?

  • Bienvenu Eva Nga, Orlando Pirates & Yagan Sasman, Swallows FC, August 2022Backpagepix

    Bienvenu Eva Nga

Eva Nga returns to the starting fold after he was dropped for the Chippa duel.

Although he came on at the hour mark, he could not score and help Pirates avoid defeat in their last outing at Orlando Stadium.
