New job for Steven Gerrard?! Liverpool legend lined up for shock return to management by England's worst club just days after Al-Ettifaq exit

After confirming the departure of manager Mike Williamson on Monday, Carlisle United have identified Gerrard as a possible replacement and are considering approaching the former midfielder, The Daily Mail reports.

Gerrard, who managed Rangers and Aston Villa before heading to Saudi Arabia, left Al-Ettifaq last week after 18 months in charge amid his team's dismal results this season. The Liverpool hero left the club sitting 12th in the Saudi Pro League.

Carlisle are bottom of League Two and five points from safety from relegation and the club's owners believe Gerrard may help prevent them from dropping out of the English Football League (EFL) this season.

When Gerrard left Al-Ettifaq, it was reported he is open to remaining in Saudi Arabia in a football development role, but with Carlisle reportedly eyeing him, he may opt to return to England.
