Nemanja Vidic explains why Man Utd will improve next season as Old Trafford icon sends 'winning culture' message to Sir Jim Ratcliffe

The former Premier League legend expects Ratcliffe to bring back the club's winning culture after a period of struggle since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement. Vidic says the INEOS CEO knows how to lead and that success runs from the top, but warns the new part-owner must make the right decisions in terms of management and transfers.

Speaking to The Times, Vidic said: "What I talked about in this interview you can translate to the club. Everything comes from the top down. Especially values. For the new management [Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos] it’s not great that United is in this situation it is — but it’s good for them to see the capability of the players. Almost to see the worst of Man United.

"I look at Sir Jim Ratcliffe, he is a very successful person in his businesses and not by accident. He has so many people under his management and understands the importance of structure and mentality and culture. Looking from the outside, I think what he’s trying to do is to put the right leadership in the right areas and create a winning culture. I think everyone is waiting for Manchester United to win. Not just United fans."

The Red Devils have won one trophy in the last eight years and are without a league title since 2013. It is going to take a lot of change to drag the Premier League giants back up to the standard they were once at and no side has yet been able to better Pep Guardiola and Manchester City on a long-term basis.

Securing a spot in Europe is vital for a club the size of United and although they will miss out on Champions League football next season, a run in the Europa League or Europa Conference League could provide them with an opportunity to add another piece of silverware to their collection. They are also still in contention for the FA Cup and will face old foes City at Wembley on 25 May.
