MLS unveils 2025 One Planet pre-match jerseys made from recycled materials

Major League Soccer and Adidas have unveiled the 2025 One Planet Kit collection, a league-wide pre-match jersey initiative made from recycled materials. The pre-match jerseys represent a tangible example of how sports organizations can integrate eco-friendly practices into their operations while raising awareness among millions of fans about environmental issues. The jerseys were released as part of MLS's annual Greener Goals Week of Service, celebrating Earth Day and continuing the league's commitment to addressing environmental impact through sustainable practices.

"The kit celebrates taking a step towards carbon neutrality while raising awareness of climate transformation and the need to change human behavior," MLS stated in their official announcement. "Frontprints symbolize the vital connection to embracing a more conscious way of life. The rings of ancient trees woven into the design convey the passage of time and illustrate the profound impact of climate change through the years."

This year's One Planet kits mark an evolution in MLS's environmental initiatives. The league previously featured recycled material kits in actual matches, but shifted to pre-match tops in 2024 after criticism regarding a lack of contrast between competing team kits. Available in light green and tan options, both colorways feature tonal details including club crests and Adidas logos in slightly darker shades. The shirts incorporate darker panels under the arms that taper down the sides, with matching piping running from the collar and around the sleeve cuffs.

All 29 MLS clubs will wear the One Planet pre-match jerseys during warm-ups in the coming weeks as part of Earth Day celebrations. Fans can purchase the jerseys through MLSStore.com and at stadium shops, with a portion of proceeds supporting the league's environmental initiatives. The Greener Goals Week of Service will continue with additional sustainability projects across MLS communities.
