'You know the rules!' - Marcus Rashford accused of 'self-sabotage' after Barcelona disciplinary breach

  • Rashford dropped after turning up late for Barcelona meeting

Days after his match-winning brace at Newcastle, Rashford was left out of Hansi Flick's starting XI for the Getafe clash for this disciplinary breach. The England international impressed off the bench in that 3-0 win on Sunday but that has not saved him from ex-Watford star Troy Deeney's scathing critique.

Deeney comes down hard on Rashford

The former Birmingham City man told talkSPORT: "I was one to give him so much credit after this because I am quite harsh on Marcus. But, you know when someone keeps showing you who they are, you start to believe them. He keeps doing this, where he gets to a high and he self-sabotages. Every time. You know the rules, you know what you're supposed to do at Barcelona."

  • Flick lays down the law at Barcelona

Flick has previously left Barca players out for turning up late to training, such as captain Raphinha and right-back Jules Kounde. Incidentally, Rashford was also dropped for lateness at United before a game against Wolves in December 2022. Barca fans will hope there will be no more misdemeanours in the future.

Rashford has chance to redeem himself

With Barcelona gearing up for four games in just 11 days, Rashford has a chance to move on from this and put things right on the pitch - although his timekeeping may need to improve. The Blaugrana visit Oviedo on Thursday, before hosting Real Sociedad on Sunday. Then, Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain come to town on October 1, before taking on Sevilla in La Liga four days later.
