<p>Earlier this summer, United were in search of a new head coach who could replace Ten Hag at the helm following a disappointing 2023-24 Premier League campaign, however, the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/erik-ten-hag-renews-man-utd-contract-until-2026/bltf932834fb2cab480#cs90f1677346b12eba" target="_blank">Dutch manager eventually put pen to paper on a new deal </a>which extended his stay at Old Trafford until June 2026.</p>

<p>The Red Devils explored several options including Thomas Tuchel and former England boss Gareth Southgate. <a href="https://sportbild.bild.de/fussball/vfb-stuttgart/vfb-stuttgart-welt-klub-wollte-hoeness-warum-er-ablehnte-670b986f2de6a20c12808ca9" target="_blank">BILD</a> now claims that the Premier League giants had a concrete interest in roping in Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeness, who guided the club to a second-place finish above Bayern Munich in the 2023-24 campaign.</p>

<p>The report also claims that while Hoeness was flattered by the offer of a club of the Red Devils' stature, he politely rejected it as he wanted to honour his Stuttgart contract which is valid until 2027. He has a special bond with the Bundesliga side as his father Dietar won the German championship with Stuttgart in 1992.</p>
