According to Fabrizio Romano, no purchase option has been included in the season-long deal either. The Cameroon international goalkeeper is merely being given a chance to rebuild form and confidence in Turkey.

After several months of speculation regarding his future, Onana is finally preparing to bid farewell to Old Trafford. It may, however, not be the end of his association with Premier League heavyweights.

United have seen the 29-year-old make several costly errors across his two seasons in English football, with little value being found in the £48 million ($65m) deal that prised him away from Inter in 2023.

Romano has said on X of Onana’s imminent move - with his contract in England running until 2028, with the option for a further 12-month extension beyond that point: “Travels to Turkey in the next 24 hours together with his agent! Plan confirmed: he’s becoming new Trabzonspor player on loan from Man United until June 2026. No buy option clause or loan fee.”

Ruben Amorim’s side spent much of the summer being linked with Aston Villa star Emi Martinez and Champions League winner Gianluigi Donnarumma, before eventually bringing in Belgian shot-stopper Senne Lammens - who will be given a chance to make the No.1 spot his own.
