Luka Jovic reportedly rejects Cruz Azul offer as striker hopes to remain in Europe with Real Oviedo

AC Milan forward Luka Jovic has turned down an offer from Cruz Azul, bringing an end to the club’s pursuit of the Serbian striker. Despite being close to a deal just weeks ago, the move ultimately fell through.

Sources told ESPN that Jovic’s decision was influenced by a desire to remain in Europe, with both sporting ambitions and family considerations playing a role. While Cruz Azul had shown strong interest and held advanced talks, the club’s inability to clear a foreign-player spot on the roster became a major obstacle.

With negotiations stalled, Jovic is now expected to sign with newly promoted La Liga side Real Oviedo in the coming hours. A move to Spain is currently seen as his most likely path to stay in top-tier European football.

Back in Mexico, Cruz Azul will continue exploring options to strengthen its attack. The club is still trying to offload one of its foreign players (Gabriel Fernández or Giorgos Giakoumakis) to create room for a new signing.

A return for Gabriel “Toro” Fernández hasn’t been ruled out, and Giorgos Giakoumakis could also be reintegrated into the squad. Neither player is currently in Nicolás Larcamón’s plans, but the failed signing of Jovic may force the club to reconsider. The Greek striker has attracted interest from Charlotte FC, although no agreement has been reached.
