  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Midway through the first half of Leicester's Premier League clash with Southampton, referee David Webb accidentally collided with Foxes forward Jordan Ayew and fell to the turf in apparent pain and discomfort. Vardy went running over to the debutant match official, but instead of checking on Webb, he grabbed his hand and cheekily blew into the whistle the referee was still holding it. The Leicester star then stood up and just walked away.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Webb is a 17-year veteran of the EFL, but this was a top flight debut to forget. He couldn't continue due to the need to undergo a concussion check, having already seen the game heavily delayed due to be being treated on the pitch - more than 10 minutes was added onto the end of the first half. Fourth official Sam Barratt took control of the rest of the game.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Vardy and Ayew each scored in the first half, either side of the referee drama, to hand Leicester a 2-0 win. It is too little too late to save their season, which Vardy branded a "sh*t show" last month, but it was his 199th Leicester goal. The former England international will leave the Foxes at the end of the season and so has just three more games left to grab the landmark 200th.

    WHAT NEXT?

Leicester's final three games are against Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town and Bournemouth. Vardy, already third among the club's all-time scorers, would become just the third to break the 200-goal barrier after Arthur Rowley (265) and Arthur Chandler (273), stars of the 1950s and 1920s respectively. He won't retire after leaving Leicester, determined, at the age of 38, he can still perform in the Premier League. That has led to reported interest from Wrexham, in the Championship next season, being dismissed.
