The United captain is leaning towards accepting the offer from Al-Hilal, according to the BBC, TheTimes and the Manchester Evening News. THE BIGGER PICTURE

Reports of Al-Hilal's interest in Fernandes first emerged at the start of May before United's Europa League semi-final second leg against Athletic Club and has gathered pace since the Red Devils were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham in the final. Fernandes opened the door to him leaving United immediately after losing to Spurs at San Mames, telling reporters: "If the club thinks it's time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in, it is what it is.”

  • WHAT AMORIM SAID

"He is really important for us and what we want to build for the team," Amorim said earlier this week during United's post-season tour of Asia. "We talk about this many times. You can see by his performances. You can see by his leadership. You can see the passion he has for the game. In difficult moments Bruno is the guy who takes responsibility. He should because he is the captain."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

According to The Times, Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho held talks with Al-Hilal representatives in Riyadh on Thursday and has told his client the terms of the offer, which would see him more than double the £300,000-per week salary he is currently on at United. Fernandes joined the Red Devils from Sporting CP in January 2020. He has scored 98 goals and set up a further 97 in 290 appearances. He was also the team's leading scorer and assist provider last season, with 19 goals and 19 assists.

    WHAT NEXT?

All eyes will be on Fernandes when United take on Hong Kong. The player will have no time to rest though as immediately after the game he will head off to join the Portugal team at the UEFA Nations finals in Germany. Portugal meet Germany in the semi-finals on June 5, with the final taking place on June 8. If he completes the move to Al-Hilal, Fernandes will then play his new team's first game of the Club World Cup against Real Madrid on June 18.
