  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Rangers striker McCoist urged Liverpool to make a move for Kane in the summer transfer window. McCoist believes the Premier League leaders, who were recently linked with a shock move for Kane, should test Bayern Munich's resolve with a bid for the England captain.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Liverpool are facing an uncertain summer transfer window. Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave on a free transfer to Real Madrid, while Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk could also depart for nothing after failing to agree new contracts. Arne Slot could be in the market for a new striker if Salah doesn't sign a new deal, particularly with Darwin Nunez failing to impress this season.

Kane, meanwhile, is closing in on the first trophy of his career with Bayern, who lead the Bundesliga by six points. The former Spurs star has been a huge success at the Allianz Arena, but it emerged recently that he has a release clause in his contract - potentially opening the door to a Premier League return.

  • WHAT ALLY McCOIST SAID

"I think Harry Kane would score a phenomenal amount of goals [for Liverpool], I really do,” McCoist told talkSPORT. "He's not going to come back to Arsenal, He’s not going to City because of [Erling] Haaland. If he was going to come back to anybody, I could see him at Liverpool."

Asked if he could see Kane playing for Manchester United, McCoist replied: "Not this Manchester United squad just because of where they are. It’s amazing we're even saying that players would think twice about coming to Manchester United just because of where the club is at this moment in time.

"Harry Kane is not going to leave a team that is in the Champions League every season to come to a team that might not be in Europe.

"[But] Liverpool? I thought it was a little bit early for [Kevin Hatchard - Bundesliga expert] to shoot it down because I don't think there’s another big move at the end of his contract, I might be wrong."

    WHAT NEXT FOR HARRY KANE?

Kane will next be in action on Friday, when Bayern host Augsburg looking to extend their lead at the top of the table to nine points. The England captain will also have one eye on next week's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Inter Milan, having fired his side beyond rivals Bayer Leverkusen to reach the last eight.
