Goal 50: Which forwards could make the list in 2020?

Mane was the second highest African star in this year’s Goal 50, finishing fifth after another glorious campaign in which he won the Champions League with Liverpool. 
 
For some, Mane’s placement was too low, and bar a devastating injury or loss of form, he appears primed to end 2020 in a similar spot in the rankings. 
 
With a Premier League title triumph with the Reds, and another tilt at the Golden Boot, he could even reach higher on the list.

Come the middle of 2019, Pepe might have been considered a contender for the Goal 50. He ended his final season at LOSC Lille with 22 goals and 11 assists, prompting Arsenal to part with a whopping £72 million to bring him to the Emirates Stadium. 
 
At this stage of his career, it appeared as though the world was at Pepe’s feet, but subsequently, he’s only demonstrated his quality in momentary spells in North London. 
 
If he could rediscover his rhythm, then perhaps this talented wideman could find himself in contention for Goal 50 2020.

Nicolas Pepe

It may be too early for Osimhen to make the 2020 Goal 50, but if he maintains the goalscoring form he demonstrated early in his LOSC Lille tenure—as Pepe’s replacement—then he could be an outside bet for the 2020 list. 
 
The wonderkid took to life in France immediately, scoring seven in his first nine top flight games, and he also netted three times for Nigeria in two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers during the ongoing international break. 
 
He’s an outsider, of course, but goals have always made people sit up and take notice of promising players!

Auba also made this year’s Goal 50, featuring in our elite selection of the world’s greatest players for the fourth year, having also made the cut during his time at Borussia Dortmund. 
 
The Gabon international continues to demonstrated his unflinching quality in front of goals, albeit during testing and transitional times for Arsenal, and already has 40 Premier League goals for the Gunners. 
 
At 30, Aubameyang may be approaching the twilight of his peak years, but his goalscoring form shows no sign of slowing, and don’t bet against him making the cut again next year.

Salah retained his third place in the Goal 50 this year, with only Virgil van Dijk and Lionel Messi higher than the Egypt superstar. 
 
He may have struggled at the Nations Cup, but he was a Champions League winner with Liverpool, and also dragged the Reds to a title challenge. 
 
If he can help them get over the line this season, and end their three-decade wait for an English championship, then Salah would surely be guaranteed a prominent spot in Goal 50 2020.
