The Brazilian centre-back reflected on Donnarumma's situation at a press conference on Tuesday. He said: "It's always difficult, I've been here for 12 or 13 years, I've seen players to whom it happened before, key players, important ones, who were told at the end of the transfer window that they had to leave. It's our life, it's football. All we can do is give the maximum while we're at the club and ask the same of others. I too, one day, will leave and I hope to do it in the best possible conditions. The players come and go, but the club and the supporters remain.
"I'm very proud to have done what we did with Gigio, what he accomplished. We thank him from the bottom of our hearts. If he stays, we will open our arms to him because what he did last season was incredible. It's thanks to him. If he has to leave, we thank him from the bottom of our hearts, he was a great leader throughout all his years. I can give you many names of players who have left and it hurt me. Seeing Donnarumma leave would hurt me. Other players have arrived now, that's the life of a club, that's how we live."
