  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The former Manchester United and England full-back has urged Tuchel to hand a recall to Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks after being impressed with the 28-year-old's display in the Foxes' 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Friday. Winks has 10 international caps to his name but hasn't played for his country since 2020, with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice, and more recently Angel Gomes, getting the nod.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Winks earned all of his England caps while he played for Tottenham but left in 2023 after being eased out of the club and spending the 2022-23 season on loan with Sampdoria. He played a major role as Leicester returned to the Premier League at the first time of asking last season, and in Neville's opinion has done enough in the early stages of this campaign to earn another England call-up.

  • WHAT NEVILLE SAID

"He was absolutely outstanding. Harry Winks is a player who you think could play at international level. I know he has played at international level," Neville told Sky Sports.

"But I look at him and think England lack a player who can get us playing. And he is very good at that. He might be better suited to international football actually than club football. He was outstanding in the first half.

"But what he has to do in the second half, when it's more difficult for him, is he has to still get on the ball and dominate the game – that's what the best players do in that position. He got nullified in the second half and that was the turning point in the game because Forest had to tighten up."

    WHAT NEXT FOR ENGLAND?

Interim boss Lee Carsley will oversee next month's Nations League fixtures against Greece and the Republic of Ireland before ceding control to Tuchel, who will take charge in January.
