Tributes paid to England and GB deaf women's footballer Gemma Wiseman who has died aged 33

Tributes have flowed in for Wiseman, who was found dead in a woodland are on the outskirts of Rackheath, Norwich, on December 16 and an inquest into her death was opened this week. She is survived by wife, Laura, and her three-year-old daughter.

The FA's director of women's football, Lady Sue Cambpell, said: "We are all deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Gemma. Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. Gemma was an outstanding person and player who represented England on multiple occasions, including during the 2015 World Deaf Futsal Championship, and she will be greatly missed."

A GoFundMe page was set up to help pay for Wiseman's funeral and has raised over £11,000 more than the initial £8,000 goal.

The page said: "Gemma was a kind and caring person with a great sense of humour. Everywhere she went she brought laughter and energy with her and easily made friends with anyone who was lucky enough to meet her. Gemma leaves behind her devoted wife, Laura, and 3 year old daughter who are at a complete loss without her. We are kindly asking for donations to help pay for Gemma’s funeral and give her the send off she truly deserves. So if you are able to donate anything at all this would be hugely appreciated. Laura is extremely grateful for everyone’s help and support at this difficult time. It's ok to not be ok xxx."

Wiseman played for England and Great Britain’s deaf women’s teams, helping the latter to a third place finish at the 2016 World Deaf Football Championships. She was also a member of the GB teams that won the bronze medal in the 2013 Deaflympics and the European Football Championships in 2011.
