    2026 World Cup

Ronaldo is the all-time leading goalscorer in the history of men’s international football. He has earned 200 caps for his country and continues to make himself available for selection. He may well grace the 2026 World Cup – which would be his sixth appearance at FIFA’s flagship event. Asked if Portugal are capable of winning that tournament, Ronaldo said “yes”. That was considered to be a lie, with the 38-year-old saying: “What a pessimist, huh?”

  • Best goal

The Portuguese icon has scored many memorable goals down the years, but few can be considered better than the stunning bicycle kick he netted for Real Madrid during a Champions League clash with Juventus in 2017-18. Ronaldo said that effort was his best, but was informed that he was lying. He was not having that and said of that strike: “For me it's the best goal. You can say it's the most difficult... the most beautiful. It depends, so many things.”

    Keep going

Ronaldo is still going strong at Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, with 12 goals recorded through 11 games this season. He has always kept himself in the best possible condition and is expected to play on for some time yet. Ronaldo was considered to be telling the truth when admitting that he plans to play on into his 40s.

  • Goal record

Ronaldo has become the first man in history to register 850 goals in professional football – with 727 of those efforts coming at club level and 123 for Portugal. Eternal rival Lionel Messi sits on 818, and is two years younger, but Ronaldo still has plenty of football left in him. When asked if anybody will ever beat his record, he said “no” and was telling the truth.

    Nobody better

Ronaldo was also considered to be telling the truth when backing himself as the greatest goalscorer of his own lifetime. He boasts the records to support that claim, with more than 100 goals recorded for Manchester United and Juventus. He hit 450 in just 438 appearances for Real Madrid and is ticking over at close to a goal a game for Al-Nassr.
