All completed Wrexham transfers so far in 2023-24 - listed

Wrexham returned to the English Football League after pipping Notts County in tense, dramatic National League title race last season, ending a 15-year exile.

Indeed, Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have transformed the fortunes at the Racecourse Ground, and the Red Dragons are currently fighting for one of the three automatic promotion spots in League Two.

Manager Phil Parkinson already has an impressive squad thanks to a massive budget that was used pretty well across the pitch in previous transfer windows. As a consequence, they were relatively quiet throughout the winter transfer window, but that changed on the deadline day as they brought in some fresh faces to boost their promotion charge.

GOAL has got you covered with all the completed Wrexham transfers in the ongoing 2023-24 season, below.

After a slow start to the summer transfer window, the Red Dragons sprang to life when they snapped up defender Will Boyle from Championship side Huddersfield Town on a three-year deal as a high-quality upgrade in the centre-back department. They then signed a pair of goalkeepers in up-and-coming Liam Hall and Luke McNicholas (loan) from Bradford PA and Sligo Rovers, respectively.

34-year-old veteran James McClean, though, was Wrexham’s star transfer in the summer of 2023. The Irish midfielder’s professional career spans impressive names such as Sunderland, Wigan Athletic, West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City, and Wigan Athletic again for the past two seasons.

Wrexham paid an impressive £250k ($316k) for McClean’s services on a one-year deal, with the club holding the option of a further year.

In what was a hectic deadline day, they completed the surprise signing of former Millwall midfielder George Evans on a Bosman transfer before Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo arrived on a year-long loan deal to replace Ben Foster following his retirement.

Wrexham released a number of players ahead of their return to the Football League.

Despite the club's historic campaign in the National League, a number of players were axed by ambitious Wrexham as they look to make room for summer reinforcements.

Ryan Austin, Malik Dijksteel, Jake Hyde, Rory Watson, Tom Jenkins, Dan Jones, Louis Lloyd and Will Mountfield were all released as well as former Burnley goalkeeper Kai Calderbank-Park and ex-Norwich defender Reece Hall-Johnson.

Harry Lennon, who recently confirmed his intention to retire due to several injury issues, also parted company. Out of the blue, star veteran goalkeeper Ben Foster opted to hang his boots once again. Foster only came out of retirement last season to perform heroic deeds with Wrexham’s jersey in their National League triumph.

  • New signings winter window

Just like in the summer, the Welsh outfit, bankrolled by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, burst into action on winter transfer deadline day, with the captures of full-back Luke Bolton and striker Jack Marriot in quick succession from Salford City and Fleetwood Town, respectively, for undisclosed fees. And they are not done yet, with a club-record six-figure move for Rotherham United midfielder Jamie Lindsay now in the offing.

  • Departures winter window

Wrexham are still on the lookout for transfer reinforcements to bolster their League Two promotion push, but outgoings are also on the cards. Clubs are only allowed to register 22 outfield players to feature in League Two.

The Red Dragons boast an already bloated squad, with Billy Waters, Callum McFadzean and Bryce Hosannah missing the cut from the registered squad list in the first half of the season. Waters, Scott Butler, and Owen Cushion have all been offloaded on loan to make room for new additions.

Second-choice goalkeeper Luke McNicholas’ loan deal at the club was made permanent, having signed from Sligo Rovers in August, with an option to buy.
