'It will not be the end of the world' - Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino insists he does not fear Blues sack after inconsistent first season

Rumours have been circulating that the Blues boss could be forced out of Chelsea despite finally starting to see some progress on the pitch. Pochettino has endured a mixed season at Stamford Bridge but could yet guide the West London club into Europe next season. He admits that if he is sacked, "it will not be the end of the world."

Chelsea are in the middle of a huge rebuild after Todd Boehly splashed the cash in the last two years. Although he has failed to challenge at the top of the Premier League, Pochettino has taken his expensive squad forward since returning to management in England. They could still finish as high as fifth which is a vast improvement from their 12th-placed finish in the previous campaign.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea's trip to Nottingham Forest, Pochettino said: “If we are happy, perfect. But it is not only if the owners are happy or the sporting directors [are] happy. You need to ask us also, because maybe (we) say ‘we are not happy’ and we accept the situation and we need to split. Maybe we are not happy because we arrive here with a job to do and in the end, it has not happened. I am not saying I am not happy. If we split it’s not a problem, it will not be the end of the world."

Chelsea still have three games left in the top flight and start at Nottingham Forest tomorrow. They will then take on Brighton in midweek before ending their campaign at home to Bournemouth. It will likely take three wins for Pochettino to get his side into the Europa League with Newcastle and Manchester United also vying for a spot in the top six.
