Kenya players react v Tanzania.
Goal reviews the five key lessons Kenya need to learn after losing to Tanzania on penalties to exit Chan

  • Nicholas Kipkirui of Gor Mahia scores past Ezekiel Owade of AFC Leopards.

    Poor selection by coach Migne

Harambee Stars were playing at home and should have taken advantage of that to win the tie. Coach Sebastie Migne had players who could have given him the win he wanted but his team selection proved ineffective. Gor Mahia forward Nicholas Kipkirui, Abdalla Hassan of Bandari and Tusker’s Boniface Muchiri were players who could give Kenya a goal threat but were benched instead.
  • Kenya and Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne.

    Sebastien Migne is tactically poor

The French tactician went to Tanzania to defend instead of trying to get an away goal. At home, in the first half, the players were also playing cautiously and were scared to attack, it was as if they were playing away. The tactician should have introduced creative offensive players, who could have won the game in normal time instead, of proceeding to penalties.
  • Kenya and Harambee Stars fans v Tanzania.

    Kenyan fans are now tired!

The Kenya U-23 team were eliminated by Sudan from the Olympics qualifiers and later the senior team failed to live up to expectations at the Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt. Frustration on the fan's faces was evident, the technical bench under Sebastien Migne has failed to deliver despite having rich resources. Ask, and you will be told Afcon qualification was a fluke!
  • Joash Onyango of Gor Mahia FC and Harambee Stars.

Onyango is the real deal for Kenya

The Gor Mahia defender was the rock at the back for Harambee Stars, and he reminded Kenyans what they missed at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. However, it was a poor decision by the technical bench to allow him to take a penalty in the shootout, he is not a regular penalty taker and it showed when he stepped up to take his kick.

    No Chan again for Kenya!

This was to be a perfect opportunity for Harambee Stars to qualify for the competition for the first time in history, but they bottled it. Once again, millions of Kenyans will watch from home as the best teams battle it out in Cameroon. This is the sixth Chan finals in a row that Kenya have missed out on.
