  • Fire reportedly among three teams chasing Neymar
  • Star forward's preference seems to be reuniting with Messi
  • Neymar's contract ends this summer
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Neymar has been long speculated to be joining his former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets at Inter Miami, but there might be a chance he will end up in Major League Soccer with another team, at least according to a series of reports.

The Chicago Fire are among three MLS sides who are chasing the 32-year-old forward, who has starred for Santos and PSG among the Blaugrana. Neymar is currently suiting up for Al Hilal, but has largely been disappointing for the Saudi Arabian side. He has yet to score a league goal for the club and has made just three league appearances.

The Fire declined to comment on the potential move for Neymar. Santi Aouna was first to report the news of the Fire's interest in Neymar, with ESPN adding that two other clubs are also pursuing the forward.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Neymar's potential arrival in the North American top flight is appearing to gain traction. Inter Miami remain the favorites to sign him, but as new manager Javier Mascherano insisted, adding him under the current MLS rules would be prohibitive. All of that opens the door for the Fire and other MLS teams.

The Fire have been linked with several big names since the arrival of former USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter and this would be one of the bigger arrivals in MLS history.

Neymar, when healthy, is among the world's best attacking talents, scoring 204 league goals in 340 appearances. He's also an incredible playmaker, setting up 83 goals during his time at PSG and Barca. Yet, his injury track record is concerning. He hasn't played more than 25 matches in a season since his last campaign with Barcelona in the 2016-17 season.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Neymar teamed up with Messi and Suarez to form the "MSN" trio that set Europe alight in 2015, winning the Champions League with Barcelona. Busquets was also an underrated but vital cog in that run.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR NEYMAR?

Neymar's future remains undecided with his contract coming to an end in June. Until then, the speculation will continue to ramp up.
