    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The surgery was required to treat a scaphoid fracture in Brandt's left wrist, an injury he sustained during a Club World Cup match against Fluminense in mid-June. The initial plan to treat the issue conservatively did not yield the desired healing progress, and with the player bothered by an arm splint, the decision was made for him to have an operation.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Brandt has started the season in fine form for Dortmund despite the lingering injury. He came on as a half-time substitute to score in the 3-3 opening day draw against St. Pauli. On matchday two, he played the full 90 minutes and wore the captain's armband in the 3-0 win over Union Berlin.

    WHAT'S NEXT?

Following the procedure, Brandt has been ordered to take a ten-day break from team training to recover. Despite the surgery, it is believed he could be available for a quick return to the pitch. He is considered a possibility for Dortmund's next Bundesliga match, which is at home to 1. FC Heidenheim this Saturday.
