  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany was left baffled during a press conference when a reporter asked him about the prospect of winning his first title as a head coach. The former Manchester City captain was quick to set the record straight, reminding the journalist that he had already lifted silverware as a manager - and that the achievement was celebrated in style.

  • WHAT VINCENT KOMPANY SAID

The reporter asked, per @MiaSanMia: "You won many titles as a player. Would it mean more to you to win one as a coach?"

Kompany replied: "This is incredible. It's the second time this week someone tells me this will be my first title as a coach. I won a title [with Burnley]."

The reporter tried to downplay his achievement with Burnley by countering, "As a promoted team."

Kompany then explained: "Yes, but we were first in the table and won the title. We had a parade!"

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Kompany is on course to lift his first trophy with Bayern, with the Bavarians having a healthy eight-point lead over reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen with just four games left. However, as Kompany pointed out, it's not his first title as a coach. He helped Burnley win the Championship in the 2022-23 season in what was a historic campaign, achieving automatic promotion with seven games to spare - a Championship record.
