  • Arsenal working on extending White and Tomiyasu contracts
  • Both will be handed long-term contracts
  • Arteta believes in his core group of players
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

White's acquisition from Brighton cost £50 million ($63m), while, Tomiyasu, a summer 2021 addition from Bologna, was secured for a bargain £19.5 million ($25m). Both players have more than a year left in their current deals as White is contracted to continue at the Emirates at least until 2026 and the Japanese full-back's terms will expire in 2025. Nonetheless, the club's strategic vision includes securing key players like White and Tomiyasu on fresh terms, with the goal of maintaining squad cohesion until 2027 and beyond.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Several Arsenal players have already committed to new contracts in recent times, including Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Aaron Ramsdale. Whereas, summer signings such as Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber are also tied down with long-term contracts. It is understood that the Gunners think tank does not want to spend heavily in the next few seasons after splurging £600m on incomings since Arteta took over the reins four years back.

  • WHAT ARTETA SAID

When Arteta was asked by reporters if Arsenal are working on new deals for White and Tomiyasu, the manager said: "That’s what we’ve been doing in the last three years. Apart from strengthening the squad, rewarding them as well and having some stability in the squad. Those decisions are very important."

    WHAT NEXT FOR ARSENAL?

However, Arsenal have a long-standing interest in Brentford's Ivan Toney and could be the only player they could go for during the winter transfer window. Apart from another addition in attack, Arteta is believed to be content with the current squad's strength which would diminish the need for significant future expenditures.
