  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Ipswich were in the lead after just four minutes of the Premier League clash at Old Trafford when a long ball down the right wing resulted in a tremendous blunder, as Dorgu attempted to pass back to Onana, only for the ball to go past the onrushing goalkeeper to leave Jaden Philogene to open the scoring by rolling the ball into the empty net.

  • WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

The shocking error sparked outrage among Red Devils fans on social media, while supporters of other clubs mocked Ruben Amorim's team.

"Sell Onana immediately," wrote @zayn4pf, while @Lea_EFC said: "Dorgu with his first assist for Manchester United. Where the f*ck is Onana going."

Journalist Samuel Luckhurst wrote: "Disastrous from Dorgu. Onana is clapping him. Breakdown in communication but Dorgu has to see Onana coming."

Meanwhile, @wealth_united wrote: Getting rid of De Gea for Onana was the biggest mistake we ever did as a club. We can't keep on pretending."

"Why is Andre Onana still playing for Manchester United?" asked @JoeSillett. "He's an absolute liability. He is a terrible terrible goalkeeper. He has no confidence, doesn't communicate with his defence and should never ever play for Manchester United again."

The defender was the main culprit in @_Utdbaki's eyes, who posted: "Onana had it covered, but Dorgu wasn't concentrating. He played the pass thinking Onana was still in goal. He should have guided the ball until Onana claimed it."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Philogene's opener is the 12th United have conceded since Amorim took charge in November - that's more than any other team in the Premier League in that time. United were able to get back into the game shortly afterwards, though, as an own goal pulled them level in the 22nd minute before Matthijs de Ligt scored to give the hosts the lead. However, Dorgu was given his marching orders for a horror tackle shortly afterwards in a nightmare showing for the new signing.

  • WHAT NEXT?

United were 15th in the table heading into the midweek clash, just three places above their relegation-threatened opponents. They are next in action against Fulham in the FA Cup on March 2.
