  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Brazilian shot-stopper has been sidelined for Liverpool’s last two games due to a muscular injury, which he sustained before their recent UEFA Champions League victory against AC Milan. He played the full 90 minutes in the 3-1 victory at San Siro, but in the process aggravated his condition, forcing him to miss subsequent matches against Bournemouth and West Ham United.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In Alisson’s absence, backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher produced the goods as the 25-year-old Irishman kept a clean sheet in Liverpool’s 1-0 Premier League win over Bournemouth and pulled off another string of saves in the Reds' dominant 5-1 victory over West Ham United in the EFL Cup, further solidifying his reputation as a reliable second-choice goalkeeper. However, he might be sent back to the bench as Slot sounded optimistic about Alisson’s chances of returning to the starting XI for Liverpool's visit to Molineux to face Wolves.

  • WHAT SLOT SAID

"We think he (Alisson) is [ready to play]," Slot told reporters. "He trained yesterday as part of our session with the group, so we're expecting him to do the whole session today. So, we think he is available but of course, we have to train today.

"And of course, we're really happy with Alisson being back but I want to emphasise the fact that Caoimhin [Kelleher] did really well in the two games he was in goal for us, so another example of me having two, and I think even three, good options in certain positions."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

While Alisson’s return appears imminent, Liverpool will still be without Harvey Elliott for the match against Wolves. However, the big guns like Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold should be reinstated to the starting XI after they were rested against the Hammers.

    WHAT NEXT?

Liverpool’s trip to Molineux is a crucial fixture as they aim to keep pace with leaders Manchester City in the championship race. They are just a point behind Pep Guardiola's men and any slip-up might prove to be costly to their title ambitions.
