Alisha Lehmann targeted by trolls for wearing makeup in Switzerland's 7-1 loss to Spain as Aston Villa star posts 'never give up' message despite humiliating defeat

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Lehmann started for Switzerland in their Nations League clash with Spain and they were utterly thumped, losing 7-1 as the world champions ran riot. The 24-year-old posted on Instagram after the defeat, with the words: "Never give up."

    However, the midfielder has since been targeted by trolls online who have taken aim at her for seemingly wearing a full face of make-up during the encounter.

    One wrote: "Why all the make up during a game" and another posted: "Ever feel like a muppet being the only one with makeup on to play a sport."

    Another particularly cruel comment said: "All that makeup just to lose 1-7 on home soil".

    Lehmann has been with Villa since 2021, and has won 44 caps for Switzerland, scoring seven goals. She represented her country at the World Cup in 2023, when the Swiss side were beaten 5-1 by Spain in the Round of 16.

    Switzerland return to Nations League action in December, against Sweden and Italy. In the meantime, Lehmann will be back in action for Villa this weekend against Chelsea, and has posted on Instagram that she is back in the country.
