'I don't see anyone challenging Arsenal' - Rio Ferdinand rules Man City and Man Utd out of Premier League title race

Arsenal began their quest for back-to-back Premier League titles with a convincing 3-0 victory over Coventry City, reinforcing their status as the team to beat following their historic triumph last season. Arteta’s side ended a 22-year drought by clinching the trophy in May, and Ferdinand believes the Gunners are perfectly positioned to establish a new era of dominance while their traditional rivals struggle with internal upheaval.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand was effusive in his praise for how the champions handled their opening fixture of the new campaign. "It was what I expected from Arsenal," Ferdinand said when assessing their professional performance against the newly-promoted Sky Blues.

"Solid, hard to play against, shut down the opposition and then fed on some mistakes and punished them. They played like champions. I don’t see anyone being able to challenge Arsenal this season. They’re the only team with stability. Everyone else has had big changes."

The most significant change in the division occurred at Manchester City, where Enzo Maresca has stepped into the massive void left by Pep Guardiola. While City managed to come from behind to beat Bournemouth in their opener thanks to late goals from Marc Guehi and Josko Gvardiol, Ferdinand remains unconvinced that the Cityzens can maintain their usual standards without their talismanic manager and key personnel.

Ferdinand highlighted these departures as the main reason for City's projected decline, stating: "Man City have lost their manager and the most important player in football so I don’t see them challenging or being as close as they’ve been in recent years."

The pundit also noted similar uncertainties at Anfield and Stamford Bridge, where Andoni Iraola has replaced Arne Slot at Liverpool and Xabi Alonso has taken the reins at Chelsea.

Ferdinand, who won six Premier League titles during his illustrious career at Manchester United, has urged his former club to remain grounded and focus on securing Champions League football rather than dreaming of a trophy that remains out of reach for now.

Offering a blunt assessment of United's current standing, Ferdinand remarked: "Man Utd are still in a transition and a rebuild under a fairly new manager. Man Utd need to set their stall out in a realistic manner."

He added: "We can’t pretend that Man United should be going for the Premier League title this season. We all want that but you need to be realistic and realise where you are. I think they will finish in the top-four and I would be happy with top-four."

Central to Ferdinand’s prediction is the growth of Arteta as a manager. Having navigated the pressure of a title race and emerged victorious, the Spaniard now possesses the pedigree that his counterparts are still searching for in their respective roles. Ferdinand believes this psychological edge, combined with smart recruitment, makes the Gunners nearly unstoppable.

Concluding his analysis, Ferdinand emphasised the widening gap in managerial experience between Arteta and the rest of the "Big Six" coaches. "The experience Arteta has compared to the others is night and day. He knows how to win now as well," Ferdinand explained.

"Not many managers have won back-to-back Premier League titles but I think Arteta is going to join that club. I think this is going to be a period of dominance for Arsenal. Konsa is an unbelievable signing, a phenomenal signing for that price. He’s sound, steady, durable… amazing signing."
