The Telkom Knockout Cup semi-final victory for the Buccaneers was driven by Mlambo's sheer class in the heart of the midfield where the former Bidvest Wits player walked away with the man of the match award.
“It was definitely not an easy game. Kaizer Chiefs is a great team to play against. Playing Kaizer Chiefs twice in a row in a period of four weeks is not easy,” said Mlambo to SuperSport TV.
“So, the guys gave in a great push and we were fortunate to come out with a victory. We created the chances and lucky for us we managed to convert them,” he added.
Mlambo further heaped praise on teammates such as Musa Nyatama, goalscorer Thembinkosi Lorch as well as Thabiso Kutumela.
“When you’re playing against the likes of Mido (George Maluleka) and (Willard) Katsande but we got Musa as well experience, I got Kutumela in front of me, he’s a great No.10,” he praised.
“He plays in between the lines. I have Lorch. So it was a difficult competition in midfield. They packed the midfield and we had to pack it as well. We managed to pull through and dominated it if I could say,” continued Mlambo.
“A performance supported by the great performance of my players. I mean no man is an island I wouldn’t have done it alone. So with their great performance it singled me out but it’s a token going to all of them. They put in a great shift and we all became victorious,” responded the former Chippa United player.
With the technical led by coach Milutin Sredojevic and his right hand man in Rulani Mokwena, the Soweto-born player said the two tacticians sometimes sacrifice their sleep for the sake of improving the team.
“The technical team sleep late they don’t sleep sometimes and they prepare well to help us improve our game,” he concluded.
Following the victory over their old rivals at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Sredojevic will now prepare his troops for the final.
However, before thinking of the final in Port Elizabeth on December 08, they are at home to a club from Seychelles in the Caf Champions League this week and a match against Maritzburg United in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
