Antoine Griezmann should give serious consideration to a potential move to Arsenal, according to former Gunners star Robert Pires.
The Atletico Madrid forward is generating plenty of transfer talk ahead of the summer window, with a big-money switch away from La Liga expected to be made at some stage in the near future.
Manchester United are reported to be leading the hunt for his services, with the Red Devils long-time admirers of his talents.
Griezmann has helped to fuel such talk by airing a desire to play alongside France international team-mate Paul Pogba at club level.
United would have no problem financing such a deal, and Jose Mourinho is expected to be backed once again when the opportunity to recruit presents itself.
Pires, though, believes his fellow countryman should follow his lead and head to north London, where the coaches and players at Emirates Stadium would help to enhance his game.
The 1998 World Cup winner told Natacha Tannous: “This is only speculation about Antoine Griezmann and Manchester United. Why not see Griezmann at Arsenal?
“He has a good profile to play with this team. I think he could learn a lot with [Arsene] Wenger, with [Mesut] Ozil, Alexis [Sanchez], [Santi] Cazorla. Fingers crossed.”
Arsenal would need to smash their transfer record in order to put a deal for Griezmann in place, with a fee in the region of £86 million expected to be required to secure his signature.
The Gunners may also need Champions League football in order to lure top targets onto their books, with a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday leaving them fifth in the Premier League table – two points off the pace.
