We are no longer interested in Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Buchanan, confirms Maritzburg United chairman

Maritzburg United have ended their interest in Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keagan Buchanan.

Prior to the January transfer window, it was reported that the Team of Choice were leading the race to sign Buchanan as the former Bloemfontein Celtic playmaker went in search of more regular game time.

Since joining Amakhosi, the 25-year-old has failed to break into coach Steve Komphela’s starting XI, and with the likes of George Maluleka and Wiseman Meyiwa ahead of him in the ranks at Naturena, it was believed that the Soweto giants would be willing to let him leave.

However, with the transfer window now in full swing, it seems that Maritzburg have opted against pursuing the Cape Town-born Buchanan. According to club boss Farook Kadodia, Buchanan is no longer a target of coach Fadlu Davids and they will commit their interest elsewhere.

“Our coach (Fadlu Davids) have other thoughts about him,” Kadodia told The Sunday Tribune.

“We are no longer interested. We are not going to chase players in this transfer window period, but we will go for particular ones we need. We signed Bokang Tlhone because we’ve been searching for an out-and-out left back for a while now,” Kadodia concluded.
